For another great book in the same vein as Harry Potter there is the series by David Eddings - they are a wonderful read for all ages I have read all the books several times and I love them each and every time

I would HIGHLY recommend Shanna Swendson's series, beginning with the book Enchanted, Inc. Similar to Harry Potter (a combination of fantasy and chick lit). Absolutely amazing!!!
