Described by the English Financial Times as the Guide of Guides, the newly launched Fishers Travel SOS guides are exactly as they say, an SOS in times of need. They are an emergency travel guide that have contact information for specific locations from medical to legal, financial to transportation, missing or stolen items, to accommodation and communication.
Born from a negative holiday experience, Julian Fisher has created guides covering every eventuality that could be faced on a trip. If you lose your passport or need alternative hotel accommodation you’ll find the contact information in these innovative little booklets.
Researched and written by a team of more than160 writers who live in the destination and then fact checked by an editor in that same country who verifies that all the information is lcoal, up-to date and accurate. Included as well are essential contact numbers there is local advice and phrases to help you get through any awkward moments.
His own experience was an example, on arriving in Oslo he discovered his daughter’s passport had expired. They were able to enter the country but told that they would be refused entry into the UK without a valid passport. Unable to find the necessary help quickly, his whole trip was taken up with sorting out the problem.
This led him to realise the need for such a guide and after much research and personal expense his dream led to reality with the launch on 9th October 2006 which saw 26 guides released, with many different destinations being added later. The website has a list of all the guides available and those nearing completion along with the dates they will become available.
Julian’s aim is to cover all major destinations in the world with these guides so that people can in the words of his trade mark - Travel far Travel safe.
The booklets contain phone numbers and addresses to help you deal with any hiccup you may face and just having one of these guides in your pocket will give you more confidence as you travel, and speedy solutions should the need arise.
Fisher’s use the relatively new mechanism called VDP or Variable Data Printing which means that data can be constantly renewed providing the latest information as each booklet is printed to order, in this way the costs can be kept down and waste reduced, as printed guides can quickly become out of date.
Guides are available from fisherstravel to download and print yourself or by post in a printed form. An incredible achievement, peace of mind and holiday insurance in one little pocket-book.
